No Fuss, No Muss: Del Monte Peas

Fernando Vidal: Ah, Del Monte. Enjoy them, old man. They will be your last.
– Raging Abe Simpson and his Grumbling Grandson in “The Curse of the Flying Hellfish”

The Simpsons | Season 7 - Episode 22

I know the food at The Springfield Retirement Castle isn’t exactly gourmet. But does Abe Simpson really enjoy eating Del Monte Peas from a can? Does anyone enjoy eating peas from a can?

Del Monte Peas

It’s not that Del Monte peas are inedible or taste that bad. At the same time, plain peas eaten directly from a can is never going to be my first choice of meal. Of course, depending on your circumstances Del Monte might be your only option. Especially if you are living in a retirement home that can’t afford quality food, but CAN afford to outfit their nurses with shotguns.

So did you eat the peas?

Yes, I did eat the peas. And by that I mean I had a spoonful, just like Abe, and used the rest for a casserole.
