Of all the alcohol to sneak into a concert venue, I’ve got to say that Homer’s Homemade Kahlua ranks pretty low on my list. The stifling heat of an outdoor concert just doesn’t really pair well with the sweet coffee flavor of Kahlua, homemade or store bought. Obviously Homer doesn’t agree since he tried to sneak his homemade Kahlua into Hullabalooz (in a wineskin no less), so maybe I’ve been missing out on this the whole time?
I got my recipe from Liv Life – unfortunately titled but very useful with three different variations on making homemade Kahlua. I went with the Freshly Brewed Coffee Kahlua method, because I don’t believe in instant coffee. Not now, not ever.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups coffee
- 4 cups sugar
- 2 1/2 cups vodka
- 1 vanilla bean
Directions
Brew strong coffee of your choice and add sugar, stir until dissolved. Set coffee/sugar mixture aside to cool and then add vodka. Pour into desired bottle and add vanilla bean. Store for a few days to a week and serve as needed.
This was surprisingly easy to make and turned out very well. If you’re into coffee flavor liqueur then this is for sure something you should try out. It goes especially well with milk as a nice evening beverage to sip by the fire…which is obviously the complete opposite of chugging it straight while at an outdoor concert. Homer, I can sometimes understand your alcohol choices but not this time.

I sometimes make a game of reading this entire blog, timing myself, then rereading it again and try to break that record.
Its just that good!
But the real question is how many envelopes are you able to lick at the same time as reading the blog?
