Back in 2008, Boston America created a licensed energy drink based on Slurm, the popular (and highly addictive) soft drink from Futurama. This briefly existed alongside Simpsons energy drinks like Duff and the Flaming Moe, both also made by Boston America, but sadly, Slurm is no longer in production. I’ve had a can in my fridge for nearly eight years and I thought it was time to finally open it up to give attempt a Slurm Taste Test. Don’t worry, like any good obsessive collector, I still have an unopened can safely stored away for posterity.
Ingredients
Like most energy drinks, this licensed Slurm drink contains four basic ingredients: carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, and caffeine. Of special note is the 120 milligrams of caffeine. About 30 minutes after I drank this, it felt like my heart was trying to escape from my chest – I was not a fan of this experience. Let’s see what it looks like:
Real-life Slurm is a paler green than in the show, and it seems less syrupy as well, but kudos to Boston America for going with a green color in the first place. I’m pretty stunned that this drink was still quite fizzy after eight years on the shelf. As for the taste, it was quite citrusy…with a vague pineapple taste. My thoughts in picture form:
…it wasn’t great. But since this was the one and probably only time that I’ll ever have the opportunity to drink Slurm, I finished it off. This was perhaps not the best idea, due to the aforementioned heart palpitations, but at least I can say that I’ve tried this discontinued drink.
Morbo Gives It: 2/10 Delivery Boys
This is something that, even if it were still available, I don’t think I’d ever buy again, unless I was planning a Futurama-themed party (and then I’d buy a lot!). But then again, I’m not a fan of energy drinks in general, so maybe I was never the target audience to begin with.

References to Slurm can technically be found in every episode of Futurama, as you can see the logo in the opening credits of the show. You can also spot the Slurm logo in the background of many episodes. However, the drink is more prominently featured in the following episodes:

I used a previous post as a platform to talk about the Simpsons at Comic-Con…so why not continue this sterling tradition? I went back to the San Diego show in 2015 and picked up a few items, including:
A Squishee from an FXX “Every Simpsons Ever” display! I was able to snag an empty cup to bring back home. FXX was still promoting the Simpsons fairly prominently at the show, including an Apu placard from the Bongo Comics booth!
