For the last year we’ve all had business to attend to inside the “Temple”. My temple mostly involved hiding under some coats and hoping that somehow, everything would work out. And now it kind of has? Thanks coats! …I mean thanks Crystal Gems! …I mean, thanks science! Yes, that’s the one. So to celebrate various people being able to come back together (in what I hope is a responsible manner) I think it’s time to make some Together Breakfast.
Ingredients
- 4 Toaster Waffles
- 1 bag Microwave Popcorn
- Lots of Maple syrup
- Whipped Cream
- 1 Strawberry
Directions
Toast waffles in a toaster and stack on top of each other. Next, place a bag of microwave popcorn into the microwave and set for whatever time won’t cause it to burn. Everyone knows that one person at the work who would leave the popcorn in the microwave for too long and then the whole kitchen and surrounding work area would stink like terrible burnt popcorn smell and THIS is what people are supposed to be happy about going back to?
….uh, anyway. Top waffles with a reasonable amount of syrup and surround the waffles with the popcorn. Top waffles with whipped cream and a single strawberry.
While I do enjoy my salty sweet snacks, this wasn’t really doing it for me. For the positives, the toaster waffles still hold up despite my not eating one in about 10 years. This certainly provided some nostalgia, “Leggo my Eggo” anyone? Plus whipped cream and strawberries are always a winning combination. Unless those strawberries are being used in a burrito-like fashion.
On the negatives, microwave popcorn is already not my favorite since I strongly dislike that weird “butter” that gets everywhere. Also, you can just buy bulk popcorn (and it’s so cheap compared to the boxed stuff) and cook it on the stove in a large saucepan with a lid. Then you can use REAL rich, creamery butter for your popcorn – so much better!
Now whether you’re using microwave or stovetop popcorn, you will still run into an additional issue when adding it to complete the Together Breakfast. Popcorn plus syrup and whip cream equals a sticky, chewy mess that does not make for a particularly appetizing bite.
Maybe I should have just ordered pizza instead?
